Neale Heskin

Neale Heskin, age 62, of Cathay, ND, formerly of New Rockford, ND, died Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at his home.

Neale Duane Heskin was born in Crosby, ND to Donna (Thompson) and Alvin Heskin on June 21, 1952.  He grew up on the family farm in rural Norwich, ND, the oldest of five, and he attended elementary school in Norwich before graduating from Granville High School in 1970.  He attended college at both NDSU and Bottineau with intentions for engineering.  His career began in elevator construction, and he went on to work in elevators for many years.  He worked at the elevator in Churchs Ferry before going on to manage elevators in Clyde and Makoti.

Neale was once married to Joyce Schiffman and together they had two children, Stacie and Cody.  In 1987, Neale moved to New Rockford and was employed as a grain buyer for G&R Grain and Feed.  In July of 1989, he met Janet Bower and they were married on August 26, 1990.  Neale and Janet’s daughter Alisa was born on May 17, 1993 – true to her Norwegian heritage, arriving on Syttende Mai.

Neale and Janet started Heskin Grain Processing in 1994, designing and building his portable cleaners himself.  His son, Cody, and Jess Bush, are integral parts of the business.

In high school, Neale was a wrestler, a basketball player and a musician, playing both the clarinet and the trumpet.  He played trumpet in the Elks Band in Devils Lake for many years.  He volunteered for the Churchs Ferry Fire Department and was an EMT there, going on to serve in both those roles in Clyde and Makoti.  He was also an EMT in New Rockford for a time and a member of the Eagles Club.

Neale loved the outdoors, relaxing at the lake, riding motorcycle, traveling, cooking, grilling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He loved hunting, fishing, and working with his son and listening to his daughters play music.

It would be hard to find anyone who would have a harsh word to say about Neale.  He will be greatly missed as a loving husband, patient father, kind brother, and loyal friend.  With his passing we lose an honest and fair businessman, a hunting and fishing buddy, and a wonderful man.

Neale is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter Stacie (Justin) Norris of Athens, GA; son Cody (Chantel) Heskin of New Rockford, ND; and daughter Alisa, a senior at Concordia in Moorhead, MN.  He leaves behind some of the greatest joys of his life, his grandchildren – Sharon Norris, Tatyn Heskin and Makaya Heskin.  Neale is also survived by brothers Kim (Lila) Heskin of rural Norwich, ND; Kris (Debra) Heskin of Coleharbor, ND; and sisters Shelley Heskin of Glen Ulin, ND; and Nancy Heskin-Rakness (Bob Rakness) of Minot, ND, as well as sister-in-law, Vicky Chesson of Lake Charles, LA; brother-in-law, Ron Bower of Rosemount, MN; numerous nephews and nieces, and lifelong friends Ole Nord and Curt Britsch.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
