Vera Mae Hilbert, age 89, of New Rockford, ND, died Wednesday June 11, 2014, at Lutheran home of the Good Shepherd.

Vera Mae Tonn was born November 23, 1924, at a farm east of New Rockford in Eddy County, the daughter of  Ed and Etta (Frazier) Tonn. She attended country school at Columbia township. After school she began working for a family as hired help.

She was united in marriage to Frank Hilbert on October 6, 1942, in New Rockford. They lived on the family farm west of New Rockford until 1977, when they moved into New Rockford

She taught CCD at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bremen, ND. She was a member at St. Joseph Catholic Church and later at St. John’s Catholic Church, New Rockford. She loved gardening and raising flowers, did needlepoint, and was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan! She and Frank lived in Phoenix, AZ, for the winters of 1985-1995.

Vera is survived by her husband, Frank; one daughter Diane Farris of St. John, KS; three sons, Michael (Viki) of Bismarck, ND, David (Patty), and Gary (Bonnie), both of New Rockford; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers Edwin (Donna) Tonn of WA, Marty Tonn of AL; two sisters Leona (Bill) Black of Carrington, ND, and Annie Lou (Norman) Anderson of Lubbock, TX

She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters Charlotte and Connie, sisters Carol and Evelyn, and one brother Billy.
