Arnold Hov

Arnold Hov, 91, of New Rockford, ND, died Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, ND

Arnold was the 5th son of Ole and Randina (Grafsgaard) Hov. He was born on the family farm, rural McHenry on November 19, 1921. He and his brothers attended school in Paradise Township and Lake Washington Township, Eddy County. He farmed with his brothers in the McHenry area all his life. He suffered from Rheumatic Fever when he was young which prevented him from entering the military. Arnold was a gentle, peaceful man; a good friend & neighbor. In 2011, Arnold and Semon sold the farm to Travis and Katie Black, and they moved to the Heritage House in New Rockford.

Younger members of the Hov/Grafsgaard family remember all the animals; the cattle, horses, cats, geese, turkeys, etc. that lived on the wonderful Hov farm. It was a grand place to visit and all were treated very special by Randina and the boys. Arnold enjoyed the Café and the Senior Citizens Center in McHenry where he enjoyed visiting, having a good cup of coffee & a piece of pie, playing cards and bingo, a pastime he brought with him to New Rockford. Arnold loved horses and an “often talked of memory of his was when he signed on with the Circle Trial Riders to be the wagon train scout/trail master tracker for the trail ride from Barlow to McHenry to celebrate McHenry’s Diamond Jubilee (June 20 – 23) in 1974.

Arnold is survived by his brothers Bert, Dayton WA, and Semon, New Rockford; his niece, Bertha Hov Hinchliff, Dayton, WA; his nephew, Bert (Dee) Hov, Jr., Dayton, WA; his great nieces, Debbie Hov Nelson, New Market, MN, Lisa Hov Bell, Northfield, MN, & Sherry Hov Kosin, Tallahassee, FL; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1941, his mother in 1963, brothers Reno in 1974, Oscar in 1991, John in 2010, two sisters-in-law, Elaine Monson Hov in 1977, Mavis Hultgren Hov in 2006, and his nephew Ed Hov in 1998.
