Bert Hov
Bert Hov, age 98, of Dayton, Washington, formerly of McHenry, ND, died Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at his daughter’s home in Dayton. Bert Hov was born September 18, 1918, at McHenry, ND, the son of Ole and Randina (Grafsgaard) Hov. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. On May 18, 1942, he was united in marriage to Mavis Hultgren at McHenry, ND. They moved to Ft. Lewis, WA, while Bert was in the US Army. Following his discharge in 1943, they returned to ND for 7 years, then moved back to WA. In 1953, they moved to Lewiston, Idaho, where they lived until 1967, when they moved to Spanaway, WA. In 1970, they moved to CO, where they lived at Colorado Springs and Denver until moving to Faribault, MN, in 2003. Mavis Hov died on December 29, 2006, and Bert soon moved to Dayton, WA, to live at the home of his daughter. Throughout his career, Bert was in the roofing industry, and had also owned a painting company with his son. His life focused around his family and his grandchildren. Bert was the glue that kept his family together; working tirelessly to make sure everyone had what they needed. He adored spending time with his granddaughters, moving from location to location to spend more time with them. His family remembers fondly the stories that he shared of his past and growing up on the farm in McHenry. He was dedicated and loved wholeheartedly his wife Mavis, who was the love of his life. Bert is survived by his son, Bert (Dee) Hov, Jr., of Dayton, WA; his daughter, Bertha Hinchliff, of Dayton, WA; three grandchildren, Lisa Bell, of Northfield, MN, Sherry Kosin, of Tallahassee, FL, and Debbie (Eric) Nelson, of Elko, MN; two step-grandsons, Philip Padgett, of Aurora, CO, and John Padgett, of Denver, CO; seven great-grandchildren, Jay, Lindsey, Michelle, Joshua, Kelsey, Ryan, and Justin; eight great-great-grandchildren, Blake, McKenzie, Landon, Logan, Jayce, Adalyn, Rylee, and Aiden; one brother, Semon Hov, New Rockford, ND; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Mavis; his father in 1941, his mother in 1963, brothers Reno, in 1974, Oscar, in 1991, John, in 2010, and Arnold, in 2012; one sister-in-law, Elaine Monson Hov, in 1977, his nephew, Ed Hov, in 1998; his son-in-law, John Hinchcliff, in 1999; and his great-grandson, Jacob Kosin, in 1992.
