Orville Johnson

Orville Johnson, age 89, of Sheyenne, ND, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.


Orville Henry Johnson, son of Olaf and Hilda (Hanson) Johnson, was born September 3, 1924, in the Oberon, ND area. The family moved to Valhalla Township in Wells County in 1931, and he attended Valhalla #2 school.


Orville entered the US Army December 1, 1945, and was stationed in Germany. He was discharged February 18, 1947.


In 1951, the family moved to the Nick Paulson farm, Norway Lake Township, Wells County, which Orville later purchased from his father. Orville farmed there until his retirement.


On September 4, 1971, Orville was united in marriage to Ann Porubski in Trenton, NJ. In 2011, they moved to New Rockford and have resided at Heritage House.


He was active in the Sheyenne VFW, New Rockford American Legion, had served on the Board of Directors for Farmers Union, Sheyenne, and the Valhalla Township Board. He was also a member at Eden Lutheran Church and later Grandfield Lutheran Church. Orville enjoyed fishing and gardening, and farming was his ambition in life.


He is survived by his wife Ann; one brother, Arnold (Naomi), Cocoa, FL; 2 stepsons which he considered to be his own sons, Randy (Karen) Porubski, Robbinsville, NJ, and George (Sue) Porubski, Hightstown, NJ; 4 step grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.


Orville was preceded in death by his parents, sister Laura Daugherty, and brother Arnie.


PRAYER SERVICE: Friday, September 27 at 7:00 PM in Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford

FUNERAL SERVICE: First Lutheran Church, Sheyenne, ND

DATE AND TIME: Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 10:30 AM

INTERMENT: With Military Honors in Eden Lutheran Cemetery, rural Sheyenne, ND

Message: I was sorry to read about the death of Orville.  I had known Orville for many years when we went to the Valhalla township country school. He was a very kind and considerate person and also did well in school.  My husband and I want to send our sympathy to the family.
