Margaret Johnston, age 99, of New Rockford, ND, formerly of Grace City, ND, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.

Margaret Henssler was born October 23, 1916, in McHenry, ND, the daughter of Frederick and Mabel (Rhodes) Henssler. She attended country school in Colvin Township near the Henssler Farm. She loved to ride horses, and rode back and forth to school. After school, she went to work on the family farm.

She was united in marriage to Paul Manz in Devils Lake, ND, and from that union came five children. Margaret had later married Paul Johnston in 1971, in New Rockford; and they lived in Brantford. Paul died April 10, 1998.

Margaret spent her time quilting, crocheting rugs, baking and raising goats. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to host picnics and have tea parties with her grandchildren. 

She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Carrington and enjoyed reading her Bible and learning about the Lord.  

She is survived by her children, Roger (Frani) Manz, Jamestown, Carolyn (Glenn) Bjornson, Tolna, Bobby (Renee) Manz, Bloomer, WI, David (Phyllis) Manz, Glenfield; son-in-law Duane Cunningham, McHenry; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Paul Johnston; parents; daughter Mabel Cunningham; 1 grandson David Manz, Jr.; 2 brothers Fredie (Carole) Henssler, and Filo Henssler; and one sister Ethel Henssler; as well as by her first husband Paul Manz.
