Clinton Kutz

Clinton J. Kutz was called home by the Lord on Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Carrington Health Center, with his wife and children at his side.  While knowing this was God’s will, we had to let him go.

Clinton was the middle child born to Rudolf and Ann (Schaack) Kutz on January 1, 1920, at Cathay, ND.  Clinton was an active member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church and a member of SS Joseph/Elizabeth Society.  He attended schools in the Sykeston area, and one of his greatest moments in high school was being a member of the Sykeston 6 Man State Championship Football team in 1936!

In 1940, Clinton married Kathrine Fruhwirth, they had one son Jerry.  Kathrine passed away in 1941, after a short illness.  On April 12, 1942, Clinton was drafted into the US Army, and was honorably discharged on Sept 25, 1945.

Clinton married Catherine Huss, daughter of Elizabeth and Mike Huss, on June 26, 1946 at Sykeston, and God entrusted them with 11 children – one son and 10 daughters.  They farmed near Sykeston until his retirement in 2002, at the age of 82.

He lived for his family and farming, this meant everything to him.  He was also an avid sports fan and would often go see his children and grandchildren play in their sporting events.  He was a big fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins.

Clinton is survived by his wife of 66 years, Catherine;  his son Jim (Gayla) Kutz, Sykeston; daughters Betty Olstad, Lewisville, NC, Cheryl (Roger) Neshem, Berthold, ND, Mary Kay (Larry) Larson, Sykeston, Patty Sorenson, Devils Lake, ND, Peggy Zink, Fargo, ND, Terri (Andy) Caylor, Washburn, ND, Roxanne Thomas, New Rockford, Shelly (Brent) Kurtz, Sykeston, Candace (Tom) Ishaug, Barnesville, MN; a son-in-law, Scott Hewitt, Sykeston; his sister, Mary Jean Bailey, Duluth, MN; 28 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and his loyal dog companion, Louie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jerry, brother Meinard, daughter Brenda Hewitt, great-grandson Solomon Topp, and son-in-law Dale Olstad.

“We all have memories of you, like the one of you singing “You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby” on our birthdays, or just anytime the mood struck – you were a darn good singer.  Also the phrase “You can’t beat fun”, and when we were all home, that’s just what we had.   Memories of you will forever be in our hearts.”    “We love you, Diey”

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society, or St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church.

Message: We want to express our heartfelt sympathy to Catherine and all the kids and families. Very fond memories of Clinton and Catherine when the girls were busy and they would watch Dustin & Jessie for us. Clinton always laughed when we talked about Jessie walking over to their house one day wearing a big Budweiser floppy hat. She was only about 3 or so at the time but had to go see Clinton.
May the Lord fill your hearts with great memories and remember we will all be together again someday. You all will be in our thoughts and prayers!
May God bless each and everyone of you!!!!
