Laura Gauderman
Laura H. Gauderman, age 94, of Juanita, ND, died Friday, March 18, 2011, at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington, ND.
Laura Kleimstein was born on September 30, 1916, near Melville, ND, the youngest child of German immigrants, Ida and Fred Klemstein. She was raised around McHenry and Glenfield, and graduated from 8th grade in 1931. Laura worked for several years as a waitress in Carrington, ND, at the Buchanan Hotel Café and the Chocolate Shop. She met Leo in the summer of 1939, and on June 25, 1941, they were married in San Francisco, CA, where Leo was a welder in the Kaiser shipyards. They returned to ND in 1943, and started farming in the Juanita area, where they lived for 62 years. Leo passed away on December 27, 2005. In April of 2006, Laura moved into the Holy Family Villa in Carrington, and was transferred to Golden Acres Manor three days before her death.
She was a hard worker, and loved tending her flower and vegetable gardens. Laura was an excellent seamstress and cook, and will be remembered for her homemade bread and caramel rolls. For many years, she was a 4-H leader for the Juanita Nimble Fingers, and was an active member of the Juanita Homemakers Club, the Grace City Lutheran Church, and Faith Evangelical Church. Laura made beautiful flower arrangements for the churches, and decorated cakes for special community events. She loved to recite poems she had learned as a child, and in later years kept herself entertained by singing, assembling jigsaw puzzles, playing solitaire, and working in her puzzle books.
Laura is survived by six children: Joann (Loyd) Leichtman, McHenry; Carol (Ralph) Nordquist, Minnetonka, MN; Janet (Alan) Scanson, Grace City; Bonnie Gauderman, St. Paul, MN; Leo (Jean) Gauderman, Juanita; Terra (Dennis) Price, Kansas City, MO; 13 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo; sisters Zett (Harvey) Lyman, Alma (Ashley) Blank, Louise (Irvin) Lovell, Margaret (Mynes) Dow, Lena (Chester) Powers, Lilly (Leonard) Pierson; brothers Hank and Eddie (Edith) Klemstein; and granddaughter Amy Leichtman.
