Rodney Leir
Rodney Leir, age 77, of McHenry, ND, died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 8, 2012, in his yard as he was finishing a project. Rodney was born to Clarence and Emma (Gunderson) Leir in McHenry on December 19, 1934. He attended McHenry Public School graduating in 1952. Rodney played high school basketball and could really hit jump shots. After graduation, he was drafted by the US Army and completed Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. The rest of his service time was spent stateside in Virginia. Upon his Honorable Discharge, Rodney returned to McHenry, where he and his father lived and did carpentry work, building houses, barns and garages. Several of which are still being used. Rodney was united in marriage to Lola Anderson on June 25, 1967 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The couple resided in McHenry for 45 years. Besides carpentry work, he also did some farming west of town where crops were harvested and grass grown for hay to feed riding horses that were bought, raised, trained and sold. The horse hobby ended in 2000. Rodney was a baptized and confirmed member of Our Savior’s Church and a member of the Bethlehem Cemetery Board in McHenry. Rodney is survived by his wife, Lola; one sister, Myrna (Charles) Aasand of McHenry; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Dalphine Hoffman.
