Leona Pergande, age 99, of Carrington, ND, died Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, ND.

Leona Hazel Roush was born December 20, 1911, the daughter of Berthel and Rose Ann (Farrell) Roush in New Rockford, ND. In 1917, they moved to Nordmore Township, where she attended rural school. They moved to Carrington, ND, in 1926, and Leona continued her education.

On November 28, 1931, Leona was united in marriage to Frank Pergande at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Carrington. She began her life as a carpenter’s wife. Leona was a sales clerk at The Gambles Clothing Store and was a waitress at Bill Dew Drop, both in Carrington. Frank died in 1975.

She enjoyed doing volunteer work at Golden Acres Nursing Home, and visiting with her friends. Leona had a great sense of humor and loved being with her family. She loved to dance and enjoyed music of all kinds. Leona was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society and VFW Auxiliary.

Leona will be remembered and deeply missed by her daughter, Dianne (Rolf) Sund, New Rockford, ND; nine grandchildren, Debbie, Dan, Kelly, Darci, Brad, Keith, Shelly, Stephanie, and Kristi; twenty four great-grandchildren; and four great, great-grandchildren.

She was greeted in heaven by her parents; husband, Frank; a son, Francis; two brothers, Murl and Gerald; one sister, Mildred Gwynn; and one great-granddaughter, Rose Hauglund.
