Leonard Topp
Leonard O. Topp, age 78, of Glenfield, ND, died Friday, November 26, 2010, peacefully at his home with his family after fighting a long and courageous battle with lung disease.
Leonard Oliver Topp was born January 20, 1932, the son of Donald and Marguerite (Stedman) Topp, near Grace City, ND. He was raised and attended school in the Juanita, ND area. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict Era, from 1953 – 1955, where he was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm in the Juanita area.
Leonard was united in marriage to Doris E. Bolken on October 15, 1955 in McHenry, ND. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science, and after graduating, returned to the home farm near Juanita, where they raised 2 children, Darwin and Janelle, and continued to farm until his retirement in 1994. They later divorced.
Leonard married Marillyn (LaMotte) Knutson on July 8, 1979, at Fargo, ND; they made their home in Glenfield. He was an active member of the Fadness-Walen VFW Post #9068 of Glenfield.
Memorial Day services were very special to him, including having his whole family in attendance. What brought Leonard the most enjoyment, whenever he was able, was going to the farm to help his son. He also loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren grow up. Leonard always had a deep hope that he would get well enough, and return to a life of activities. With a positive attitude, he found simple pleasures listening to the radio, visiting on the phone, and watching game shows.
He is survived by his wife Marillyn; his son Darwin (Jennifer), Glenfield; his daughter Janelle (Joel) Hoffman, McHenry; two step children: Calvin (Chris) Knutson Wheaton, MN, and Kathy Overby, Jamestown; four grandchildren: Lindsay, Stephanie, Nicholas, and Preston; six step-grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Della (Allan) Anderson, Valley City, ND, and Eleanor Carlson, Aberdeen, SD, and many nieces and nephews.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers LuVerne and Dennis.
