Lucille Liebig

Lucille Liebig, age 87, of Kensal, ND, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, ND.

Lucille Schimelfenig was born June 24, 1925, on a farm near Fessenden, ND. She was the oldest of 6 children born to Charles and Catherine (Kunnanz) Schimelfenig. The family moved near Goodrich, ND, where Lucille grew up and graduated from High School. At an early age, Lucille worked for the Beyer and Liebelt families as kitchen help and babysitter. She worked as a telephone operator in Fessenden as a young woman.

On September 28, 1946, Lucille was united in marriage to William F. Liebig at Fessenden. They farmed together near Bordulac, ND, until 1965. Lucille began working in 1970 for the US Postal Service, and worked for 2 years as a postal clerk in Bristol, Illinois. They returned to Bordulac where she started as clerk and eventually became the Postmaster. Following the closing of that office, Lucille became Postmaster of the Kensal Post Office, where she served 3 years until her retirement. William Liebig died December 2, 1984.

Lucille was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Kensal, also of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and LWML. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, and had made many quilts for family members and the Salvation Army and Veterans groups. She also enjoyed gardening and keeping her yard.

Lucille is survived by one son, Jerald (Charlene) Liebig, Carrington; one daughter, Brenda (Bill) Frost, Gettysburg, SD; a daughter-in-law, Joy (Gary) Helgeson, Kensal; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; one brother, Ted Schimelfenig, Carrington; two sisters, Agnes Leik, Kensal, and Hazel “Dixie� Berg, Emery, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her son Joseph William in 1977, 1 great granddaughter, Whitney; her parents, a brother Floyd and a sister Cathren Faul.

FUNERAL SERVICE: St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kensal, ND
