Raymond Lies

Raymond “Ray” James Lies was born June 17, 1979,  in Harvey, ND, the son of Peter and Sandi (Johnson) Lies.  He was baptized and received his First Communion at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bremen, ND. He was an adventurous type and began a new journey in the arms of God on June 16, 2013.

As a child, adventure was in his blood, beginning with watching his weekly Babe Winkleman show. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast, and enjoyed hunting, hiking, rugged outdoors and, of course, fishing. He was sure to make a trip each year to Flin Flon, Manitoba, Canada to Uncle Tim’s to get away from everything  - but the wildlife and the fish. He also enjoyed paddlefish season in western ND.

He excelled at school and graduated with honors from New Rockford Central in 1997. Growing up he loved working with his hands and so he went to college at NDSCS and earned a degree in welding. With his talents, he worked in Fessenden doing welding fabrication. He progressed to an employment with Dakota Fence for a short time. He then found his travel passion with the BNSF railroad in 2004. He shared many loves including collecting fishing gear and guns. His other passions were shopping at Cabella’s and his vehicles.

Something about Ray that most people took for granted is that he was a very honest person. He always believed in good morals and when people that he cared about showed poor judgment of character, he took it to heart. He had a tough shell and especially when it came to his family, he was very protective. He was a homebody and that is what gave him a sense of strength and wholeness. He is loved and will be missed.

Ray is survived by his parents, Peter Lies, New Rockford, Sandi J. Lies, New Rockford; sisters, Nicholl Thigpen, of Georgia, Andrea (Butch) Lies, Rapid City, SD, Jean (John) Schuster and family, New Rockford; brothers,  Dion (Paula) Lies and family, Harrah, OK, Brett (Luann) Lies, Maple Grove, MN, and Dan (Ashley) Lies, New Rockford, Grandmas Lois Johnson and Mildred Lies, both of New Rockford;  numerous aunts and uncles, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by Grandpas James H. Johnson and Raymond Lies, and one niece, Aylah Brewer.

Message: What a great loss for the BNSF Railway Family, Ray was as honest as they come, he was not afraid to try different jobs at work. He was his own kind of person, not pretending to be anything different than what he was or believed in. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time. May Ray rest in eternal peace.

Name: Dean and Marilyn Anderson

Date: 6/18/13

Message: Dean and I are very sorry for your loss. I think Ray was a classmate of Stacy's. Ray was always so kind to me when I moved to town even though he didn't know me very well and I didn't always recall his name, we would be chatting away in a few seconds after realizing who each other was. Our sympathies. Lossing a child and/or brother is difficult when they are young. I understand.
