Arnold Lindquist

 

Arnold Lindquist, age 103, of New Rockford, ND, died Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.

Arnold was born May 16, 1913, in Lancaster, MN, the son of Oscar and Hannah (Hanson) Lindquist. He went to a small one–room country school through the eighth grade and then worked on the family farm. He joined the army in 1941, where he served as a medic in England and France until his discharge in 1945.

He helped on the farm until his marriage to Elaine Brown on August 21, 1952. Over the years they lived in Minneapolis, MN, while going to school at Dunwoody College of Technology for Carpentry. Then they moved to Fergus Falls, MN, where he built homes, then they came to North Dakota and he took a job as a janitor in Pembina and New Rockford, until his retirement in June 1981. Then he took a part time job at Pioneer Auto Inc. with Carol & the boys. Arnold and Elaine had three children Mary Lou born December 29, 1955, Lois Ann October 9, 1959, and Gary Lee March 13, 1961. Elaine passed away on December 20, 1999.

Arnold loved spending time with his family and friends. During his early years, Arnold enjoyed trapping and hunting. Later in life he enjoyed playing his accordion, as well as watching basketball and baseball games.

He was a member of Raymond B. Thorn American Legion Post # 30, United Methodist Church, and First Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his children Lois (Tait) Feigert, Jamestown, and Gary Lindquist, New Rockford; one grandchild Amber Feigert, Jamestown; granddog Monte (AKA Pooch know from Grandpa); many nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews;  great-great nieces and great-great nephews; and special family friends Mary and Leland Koenig and family.

Arnold was preceded in death by his wife Elaine, one daughter Mary Lou, brother Cliff (May) Lindquist; brothers-in-law Elvin (Dorothy) Brown, Harvey (Ann) Brown, Wendell (Inez) Brown, sister-in-law Phyllis (Morris) Johnson.
