Louise M. Metzger

Louise M. Metzger, age 89, of Carrington, ND, died on Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington, ND.

Louise M. Kraenzel was born on July 12, 1921, the daughter of Reinhold and Hulda (Weber) Kranzel at Hebron, ND. She grew up on her parent’s farm 6 miles north of Hebron where she attended and graduated from school.

On January 7, 1943, Louise was united in marriage to Gottlieb E. Metzger at St. John’s United Church of Christ at Hebron. Following their marriage, they lived in Glen Ullin, ND, where Gottlieb worked for MDU and Louise was a housewife. Following the death of her husband on May 16, 1972, Louise moved to Bismarck, ND. She was known for her baking skills that she developed at Glen Ullin Café and her home.  These skills worked well for her while working at Donut Hole, Dave’s Fine Dining Restaurant and Kirkwood Motor Inn in Bismarck.

Proud high lights of her life were working for then Governor William Langer before her marriage. When Governor Langer and family moved to Washington, DC, they asked Louise to join them. She declined their offer, and later became a loving wife and mother.

Louise moved to Golden Acres Manor in Carrington in May 2003, where she resided until her death.  She is survived by her one son, Allan (Carol) Metzger, Carrington, ND; three grandchildren, Todd (Jill) Metzger and great-grandchildren, Molly and Mia, Fargo, ND, Mark (Sarah) Metzger and great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Chase, Springfield, MO, Matthew Metzger, Springfield, MO; and two sisters, Erna Phillips, Livingston, MT, and Hulda Wright, Auburn, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gottlieb; and twelve brothers and sisters.
