Lorraine Lucas, 80, of New Rockford, ND, died Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at her home.

Lorraine Pauline Birkholz was born on October 31, 1936, the daughter of Christ and Rosella (Hach) Birkholz in Garrison, ND. She attended Garrison High School, where she graduated in 1956. While in high school, Lorraine worked as an usher at the Garrison Theater, and later in a beauty shop.   After graduation, she moved to Minot, ND, to work at the Woolworth store for the next two years.

Lorraine met Roy W. Lucas, and they were married on May 7, 1960, at First Congregational Church in Minot.  They moved to Grand Forks, ND, and lived there for a few years before settling in New Rockford.  Lorraine began working as a Certified Nurses Aid and Ward Clerk at City Hospital, where she remained for the next ten years. After the hospital closed in 1990, she began working at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, ND, until her retirement in 1998.

Lorraine greatly enjoyed reading her Bible, and had completed a two year Bible correspondence course through Moody Institute in Chicago, IL.  She also enjoyed knitting, playing cards and bingo, and working on her family genealogy. She cherished the time she could spend with her family during birthdays and at Christmas. She had so much love for her grandchildren and for her great-grandson. Lorraine was a member of First Congregational Church, and had served as an EMT with Community Ambulance Service, New Rockford.

She is survived by her children, Bethany (Bill) Blansfield of Pine Ridge, SD, Doreen (Bill) Hockley of Casper, WY, Karen (David) Anderson of New Rockford; her grandchildren, Taylor Hockley, Amber (Mitch Sylling) Anderson, and Eric Anderson; her great-grandson, Weston Sylling; two brothers, Edwin Birkholz and Melvin (Pat) Birkholz, both of Garrison, and several nieces and nephews.
