Lucille Scansen, age 97, of New Rockford, ND, died Friday, January 6, 2012, at Carrington Health Center, Carrington, ND.

Lucille Genevieve Hennings was born May 27, 1914, in Glenfield, ND, the daughter of Lewis and Clara (Thompson) Hennings.

She attended Valley City State University for two years. Upon graduating from Valley City she worked at the Foster County Courthouse until beginning her teaching career in rural schools in Mercer, Wells and Foster Counties, then two years at Enderlin, ND for a total of seven and a half years.

Lucille was united in marriage to Ernest “Dutch� Scansen on December 29, 1942 in Devils Lake, ND, she worked for Campbell Construction. In 1953, they operated a Western Auto Store in Hastings, MN and she worked in the newspaper office part time. They returned to ND in 1957, to work in construction until moving to Apache Junction, AZ in 1971. “Dutch� died on February 12, 1976, and Lucille returned to New Rockford to do book keeping for John Scansen at Grace City for 10 years.

She was a member of Eastern Star Eagles Auxiliary and the United Methodist Church.

Lucille is survived by a nephew, Ray Halvorson, and a niece, Linda Johnson.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister, Leona Halvorson.
