Clifford "Cliff" March
Clifford “Cliff” March, age 73, of Carrington, ND, died Monday, July 6, 2015, at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck, ND.
Cliff was born in Carrington Hospital to Charles and Maude (Goldsmith) March on August 2, 1941. He grew up south of Carrington where he attended country grade school and then graduated from Carrington High School in 1961. Cliff married Alberta Schroeder on June 12, 1961, at United Methodist Church, Kensal, ND. In 1966, they moved to Tuttle, ND, after having purchased a ranch, where they raised their family and followed Cliff’s passion for ranching. He retired in 2008, and moved back to Carrington in 2012.
Most Saturday’s, Cliff could be found playing pinochle. He enjoyed the challenge of the game and fellowship with other players. Music was a large part of Cliff’s life. He called Square Dancing for more the 35 years and enjoyed time spent singing with the Centennial Singers in Harvey, ND. Cliff was a role model for his children’s involvement in the Kidder County 4-H program as they were growing up. He spent many years as their 4-H leader, in addition to serving on the Kidder County Fair Board. He was an avid high school football fan, especially when it came to attending and supporting his grandsons, who played for the Carrington Cardinals and Fargo North Spartans. All of Cliff’s grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He passed on to them a love of the land, a passion for life, and pinochle. Cliff kept many friends close to his heart and treated them is if they were family.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alberta March, Carrington; three children, Brenda (Steven) Goodman, Hurdsfield, Darnell (Cheri Harmala) March, Billings MT, Tina (Mark Laber) March, Carrington; seven grandchildren, Joshua (Lisa) Goodman, Tuttle, Jeremiah Goodman, Hurdsfield, Austin (Paige Thomas) March, Carrington, Samantha Jo March, Billings, Savannah (Cole Peppin) March, Billings, Colten Laber, Carrington, Jake Laber, Carrington; one great-grandchild, Addison Peppin, Billings. He had a special place in his heart for all of his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by both blood and love. Cliff is also survived by his siblings, Charles (Virginia) March, Carrington, Doris (Kerry) Keyser, Billings, Lew (Dorothy) March, Peoria, IL, Albert (Donna) March, Elizabethtown, KY; close friends, Jim King, Steele, ND and Lois Weltz, Martin, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Maude; a son, Jeremy March; sisters, Helen Holth and Katherine March; and close friend, Kenneth Weltz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated to the North Dakota 4-H Foundation, PO Box 6050, Fargo, ND 58108-6050.
