Mary Makay
Mary Makay, 88, New Rockford, died Monday, September 27, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.
Mary was born on July 23, 1922 to George and Amelia Abraham in Amherst, Ohio. She grew up with her sisters and brothers in Amherst, and graduated from high school there. She was united in marriage to Josef Makay in 1942. Josef served in the US Army for the first two years of their marriage, and they finally settled in California where they raised seven children together. Josef died in 1978. Mary moved to New Rockford in 1996, where she was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. Her Catholic faith was very dear to her. She is survived by two sons: Marvin (Pat) of Twin Falls, Idaho; and Ben (Gerri) of New Rockford; and three daughters: Gloria (Max) Rubio of New Rockford; Marijo Makay of Twin Falls; and Christe Makay of Canoga Park, California. She had sixteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Charles, of Garretsville, Ohio, and a sister, Margie, of Bruno, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Keith and Jove, an infant son, Abraham, and one granddaughter, Sarah. Mary joins her husband, Josef, at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, San Fernando, California.
