Marlyn John Mehlhoff
Marlyn John Mehlhoff, age 63, of New Rockford, ND, died Friday, March 18, 2016, at ManorCare Health Services, Fargo, ND. Marlyn John Mehlhoff, known as John, was born June 27, 1952, at New Rockford, ND, the son of Arthur and Gladys (Morken) Mehlhoff. He graduated from New Rockford Central School in 1970. John moved to Fargo, and worked at Bethany Nursing Home for a short time. He then began working at the Veterans Administration Hospital, and continued there for the next 33 years. John retired in 2005, and returned to New Rockford to help care for his mother. After Gladys died, John realized how much he missed working with the elderly. He went to work part time at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, in the Activity Department until he retired a second time in 2014, due to his health. John liked getting together for holidays, and spending time with his nieces and nephews made him so happy. He never missed a chance to tease and spoil them. His family remembers him as having a crazy sense of humor that could always get people laughing. He was the “go-to” person in the family to listen to their problems, and was always generous to others. In 1991, John was instrumental in getting a bill passed in the ND Legislature that protected the rights of consumers age 65 and older. His hobbies included raising flowers, raspberries, and vegetables in his garden. He was a rummage sale and auction sale regular, and never passed up a “grab bag or box for a buck”! He loved cats, and had several special ones over the years. John is survived by three brothers, Ronald (Sandy), Minot, ND, Leon (Ruth), West Fargo, ND, Dennis (Laurie Thiele), Fargo; four sisters, Nancy (Roger) Holcomb, Mentor, MN, Mary (Jay) Dunham, West Fargo, Phyllis (David) Pierce and Rhonda Heer, both of New Rockford; several nieces and nephews, and his special gal, Hazel the cat. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jack, nephews Richie Mehlhoff, Randy Holcomb, niece Roxanne Holcomb, and great-niece Marissa Perez.

Message: Deepest Sympathy to John's Family.
I met John when I first started here at the Fargo VA in 1977, when he gave me orientation. He was a devoted hard worker that gave 100% to his patients. A sense of humor that still makes me smile at some of his memorable jokes. A great man, friend and co-worker. God's Blessings for comfort of the loss of John.

Message: Uncle John, you will be truly missed by so many family & friends. I still remember the "little stinker" t-shirt you got me because we opened the Christmas gifts while the older people went to the bar. And I'm sorry about putting my ice cream cone in your fridge when I was 6 , I didn't think it would melt. Sorry you had to clean it up!!! AND, since I'm being honest I didn't want to eat the deer meat, but I didn't mean for it to land in your shoe. Love you Uncle John (my Godfather)!!
LOVE YOU, YOUR NIECE, ROBYN INGVALSON
