Muriel was a substitute teacher in the Carrington School District for many years, and they owned and operated Carrington Drug Store until their retirement in 1995. Donald died on January 29, 1997.

She enjoyed many hobbies including music, sewing, flower gardening, collecting antiques, and refinishing furniture. She mastered the Norwegian art of Rosemaling, creating many beautiful works of art.
