Marlys Mullenberg
Marlys Mae Mullenberg, 74, of rural Carrington, ND, died Friday, April 18, 2014, at their winter home in Mesa, Arizona with her husband, Duane, at her side. Marlys was born to Lyle and Esther (Chadwick) McAfee at Carrington, August 5, 1939. After graduating from Carrington High School, Marlys married Duane Mullenberg on June 17, 1957, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Carrington. They lived and farmed near Barlow, ND. Marlys was an incredibly gifted woman and the mother of seven children. Her passions included raising her children, handi-crafts, sewing, painting, playing the organ, and tending to her yard. She was well known for her knitted Christmas stockings. She also loved making Barbie doll furniture, farm sets and many other decorations from plastic canvas & yarn. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t make with plastic canvas. Marlys was also an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Marlys is survived by her husband, Duane Mullenberg, and six of their children, Marie (Patrick) McCann, Moorhead, MN, Sharon (Steve) Wede, Carrington, ND, Laura (Kent) Lachman, Alliance, NE, Mark Mullenberg, Harbinger, NC, Brian (Karen) Mullenberg, Horace, ND, and Julie (Lyle) Neuman, Carrington, ND; one daughter-in-law, Julie Mullenberg, Apple Valley, MN; two brothers, Calvin (Diane) McAfee, Mandan, ND, and Wayne (Le) McAfee, Custer, SD; 19 grandchildren, Shannon, Jamie, Amy, Jeffery, Tracy, Erin, Tony, Nicole, Mandy, Marrah, Ben, Alexandra, Zachery, Mariah, Jessica, Troy, Cassidy, Isabella, and Kelsi; 11 great-grandchildren, Xander, Gavin, Taryn, Benjamin, Connor, Holland, Beckham, Madeline, Lillianne, Reegan, and Ember with two more on the way. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, John. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
