Ethel Myhre
Ethel Myhre, age 92, of New Rockford, ND, died Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.
Ethel Mae Klumph was born August 5, 1924, in Munster Township of Eddy County, the daughter of Howard and Dorothea (Taverna) Klumph. She was baptized at First Congregational Church, New Rockford. She attended country school in Munster Twp, and also at New Rockford Central School. Upon graduation, she attended Minot College and then taught country schools for 3 years in Eddy County.
Ethel was united in marriage to Arnold Myhre on June 19, 1946, at New Rockford. They lived in New Rockford where they raised their family. Ethel had worked at Rodenberg’s Department Store, and later at Central Dakota Vet Clinic. Arnold died August 12, 1990. She continued to live in her own home until 2015, when she moved to Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd.
Her family and her faith were very important to her. She loved to do crafts, needlework, cook and bake, make jelly, and was known to be “the fastest pea sheller”! She took much pride in keeping up her house and yard. She enjoyed playing Canasta, and was an avid baseball and basketball fan, faithfully following both the Minnesota Twins and the S-NR Black Socks, and she always watched the Class B Basketball Tournaments. Ethel loved and cared for her family, especially enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ethel was a member of First Congregational Church and Women’s Fellowship, the Eddy County Senior Citizens, the NBC Hobby Club, Red Hats, American Legion Auxiliary, Eagle’s Auxiliary, and the Women’s Auxiliary Cemetery Association, all of New Rockford.
She is survived by one son Gary (Kari) Myhre, Glyndon, MN; three daughters Darlene (Gary) Risovi, Fessenden, ND, Marilyn (Doug) Hockert, Wahpeton, ND; Deb Myhre, Annandale, MN; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; one brother Alfred (Gail) Klumph, New Rockford; and one sister Joyce Hovland, Fargo, ND.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arnold, two sisters, Alberta Irmen and Lucille Myhre, and one son-in-law Tom Piatz.
