Paula Myhre
Paula Myhre, 54, of Sheyenne, ND, died unexpectedly on Sunday, December 23, 2012, at her home in Sheyenne.
Paula Kristin Myhre was born July 31, 1958, in Fargo, ND the daughter of Alf and Miriam (Narum) Garnaas. She grew up in Sheyenne where she graduated from high school in 1976. She then attended one year at Concordia College until Paula convinced her parents that she was coming home to marry the love of her life. With this move home, Paula attained her doctorate in farming, being a mother, and a community leader.
Paula was united in marriage to Erling Myhre on June 25, 1977, at First Lutheran Church in Sheyenne. They lived and farmed on the Continental Divide south of Sheyenne. In addition to farming she taught piano lessons from 1985 to present.
Paula touched many lives through sharing her gift of music, both through teaching and playing for Sunday school and other church events where she was director of music for a period of time. Paula also served as president of the First Lutheran church board, Sunday school superintendent, a member of WELCA and of the First Lutheran’s Ladies Auxiliary, a leader in the Sheyenne GRIT committee, and a spearhead in the Open Season Lodge and Spicy Roadkill Café projects. Paula was one of the original “Spice Sisters.” Paula was a compassionate volunteer to numerous organizations and events. She loved her community and the people within it.
Paula was an intrinsic part of the family farm, working hand in hand with her husband and her three sons to bring in the harvest. Paula loved cheering on her boys and her grandchildren in all of their events. She was known to yell at a ref or two if they were not being fair! Paula truly enjoyed spending time with her daughter-in-law and new neighbor, Sara. She finally had her daughter to travel, garden, share thoughts and shop with. She was an inspiration to her three grandchildren through her gift of music, game playing, and numerous sleep overs. Through her committed faith, Paula was a loving, caring, and avid friend whom always put others first. She will truly be missed by all of the people she has touched with her warm and generous spirit.
She is survived by 3 sons: Eric (Sara), on the family farm, rural Sheyenne, Darrin, Minot, ND, and Michael, 100 paces East of the family farm, rural Sheyenne; 3 grandchildren, Cole, Madisen, Hudson; 2 brothers, Allan (Joanne) Garnaas, Alexandria, VA, Daniel (Mary) Garnaas, Beldenville, WI; 4 sisters, Karen Okerlund, Fargo, ND, Mary (Gaylan) Rockswold, Golden Valley, MN, Ruth (Paul) Tweeten, Davenport IA, Beth (Steve) Garnaas-Holmes, Acton, MA; also her best friend Irene Cudworth, Sheyenne, and her close friend Stuart Johnson, Oberon, ND.
Paula was preceded in death by her husband, Erling, who died on April 7, 2004, and her parents.

Message: Dearest Garnaas and Myhre Families, I struggle with finding the words to explain how my heartaches hearing of Paula's passing. She was such a dear friend from 1st grade all the way through 12th grade. I am doing my best to remember all the wonderful memories that we created but tears have a tendency to get in the way. There is comfort in knowing she is with Erling, the love of her life. Prayers and thoughts with the family. Sending love and hugs to all.

Message: To All the Myhre & Garnass families, I met Paula back when I was in New Rockford high school. We became friends so easily with her infectious smile & bubbly personality that genuinely cared about you as a person. Even tho in our later years we would only see each other in passing but it was always as if time stood still and we'd reminisce & laugh. She will truly be missed by you all and so many others. Her blessing gift is now joining Erling once again. Know that you will be in my prayer & thoughts in the days to come.
