Myrtle Longnecker

Myrtle Longnecker, age 91, of New Rockford, ND, died Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND.


Myrtle Joyce Klemin was born June 19, 1919, in Goodrich, ND, the daughter of John and Pauline
(Gallett) Klemin. As a child, Myrtle moved with her family to the Eddy and Foster County areas. Myrtle married Alvin F. Utecht in 1937. They had one daughter, Janice, born to them. They later divorced.


Myrtle worked in the shipyards in Vallejo, CA during the war. She returned to New Rockford and was united in marriage to Cleo E. Longnecker on December 23, 1944. They had one daughter, Carol, born to them, while they lived and farmed in the Brantford area. Myrtle belonged to the Brantford Congregational Church where she sang in the choir, and was an active member of the community. They retired in the fall of 1975, and moved into New Rockford where she was a member of the United Methodist Church, the New Rockford Silver Chords and was involved with the Eddy County Senior Center. Cleo died on December 1, 1981, and Myrtle entered Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in May of 2007.


Over the years, Myrtle enjoyed reading, working in her flower beds, sewing, and doing all types of handiwork. In recent years, her great granddaughters were a source of special joy.


She is survived by two daughters, Janice (Don) Guilbault, Yuma, AZ, Carol (Jerry) Clancy, Thompson, ND; two grandchildren, Kara Clancy, Lake Park, MN, John (Kim) Clancy, Redwing, MN; two great grandchildren, Emily and Ella Clancy, Redwing, MN; a niece raised as her sister, Arlene Nunes, Clearlake, CA; a special sister-in-law, Carol Roaldson, Bismarck, ND; and four stepchildren, Ervin Longnecker, Jim Longnecker, Charles Longnecker and Lucille Saldivar.


Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo and twelve brothers and sisters.
