Alpha Nelson, age 93, of Sheyenne, ND, passed away Sunday, Easter morning, March 27, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, ND.

Alpha Thompson was born on October 16, 1922, in Rock Township near Sheyenne, ND, the daughter of Andrew and Hilda (Larson) Thompson. She attended the country school in Rock Township and graduated from Sheyenne High School in 1941. She attended Minot Teachers College (MSU) and later taught school in Cathay, ND.

Alpha was united in marriage to Clifford Nelson on November 10, 1944, at the Lutheran parsonage in Sheyenne. They farmed for many years NE of Sheyenne in Benson County. Clifford died January 14, 2000.

She continued to live on the farm with the help of her children, and caregivers; DeAnna Scevers, Maricia Littlewind, Rosa Deschamp, and Melinda Anchondo.

Alpha was known for her homemade buns and her lefsa. She was a member and officer of the Twin Tree Homemakers, First Lutheran Church, the Faith Circle, and Ladies Aid.

She is survived by her four children; Gordon (companion DeAnna Scevers) Nelson, Sheyenne, Sharon Oppen, Towner, Dianne (Bob) Hanson, Sheyenne, and Janel (friend Gilbert Horner) Nelson, Linton; two nieces and one nephew. She was also blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Alpha was preceded in death by her husband Clifford; her parents Andrew and Hilda Thompson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Trygve (Beulah) Thompson, Obert (Lois) Thompson; one sister-in-law and her husband, Myrtle (Ernie) Erickson; son-in-law Bob Oppen; her son's companion, Geneva Scevers; and two great-grandsons, brothers Carter and Cooper Oppen.
