Anne Marie (Lindstrom) Nelson

Anne Marie (Lindstrom) Nelson, 80, of Oberon, ND, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, January 8, 2017.

Anne Marie Lindstrom was born on July 27, 1936, to Albert and Edith (Pierson) Lindstrom at Minnewaukan, ND.  She was raised there, and graduated high school at Minnewaukan.  On April 18th, 1953, she married James C. Nelson at Oberon. Together, they raised 3 children and Anne Marie assisted with farm and ranch operations. She waited to enter the work force until all her children had graduated from high school, and she had taken care of her elderly parents.

Anne Marie worked at Ray’s Bait and Tackle at Ziebach’s Pass for several years, and loved being by the lake and working with people.  After Ray’s Bait and Tackle closed, she began working for the US Postal Service in Oberon.  She served as the Oberon Postmaster for several years, finally retiring in 2013, at the age of 76.

Anne Marie loved traveling, fishing, gardening, and visiting with family and friends.  She loved all of her family trips with her children!  Anne Marie was an avid gardener who greatly enjoyed having people stop by to admire her flowers and yard.  She was a well-known, respected, and active member in the Oberon community, and served that community in many capacities.  She was an active member of the Calvary Lutheran Church of Oberon, and of the American Legion Auxiliary. Anne Marie was a great supporter of the Desperado Band, which both her sons were members of, and loved traveling to hear them play.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Edith Lindstrom, and by her only sibling, Katherine Schmid, of Minnewaukan.  As fate would have it, Anne Marie passed on the same day, January 8th, which her sister had passed, twenty-four years prior.  Anne Marie is survived by her husband, James C. Nelson, Oberon; her two sons, David (Bonnie) Nelson, Devils Lake, ND, and Carlyle (Dianne) Nelson, Newtown, CT; her daughter, Nancy (Keith) Tweten, Grand Island, NE; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
