Duane Francis Neva, 92, rural Kensal, ND, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016, peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Duane was born August 23, 1924, at his parents’ home, near Kensal, the eldest child of Frank and Helen (Hoffman) Neva. He graduated from Kensal Public School in 1942. Duane married Vernette Schultz of Tolna, ND, on June 9, 1948, in Tolna. Together, they made their home in rural Kensal where they farmed and raised 9 daughters. He served on several boards, including the Stutsman County Library, Kensal Community Cafe, Lyon Township and was a member of the Jamestown Roaming Buffalo campers club. Duane had many hobbies and interests, including his Neva Tree Farm business, which many of his trees are planted in and around the Kensal area. He was a self-taught welder, electrician, plumber, carpenter and enjoyed wood-working. Duane also enjoyed traveling; his favorite trip was to Alaska. He had a real interest in technology and learning about how things worked. Everyone knew he was a “Ford man”. Being a proud, loving husband and father, Duane enjoyed family time and was proud of all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a strong yet gentle man who was kind, caring, honest, patient and respectful. He is survived by his wife Vernette, his 9 daughters, Annette (Chuck) Lochow, Russell, KY; Jeanette (Allen) Hill, Alexandria, MN; Julie (Ray) Neva-Ressin, Denver, CO; Francine (Brad) Turner, Leonard, ND; Rosalie (Jaime) Schlecht, Wimbledon, ND; Colette (Paul) Wolf, Kensal, ND; Sheila (Neil) Johnston, Courtenay, ND; Rhoda Reimers (Cory Stangeland), Kensal, ND; and Jill (Todd) Borth, Garrison, ND. 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren. 1 brother, James (Sharon) Neva, Kensal, ND, and 1 sister, Janice (Buck) Buchholz, Anamoose, ND. Message: Duane was my brother-in-law who was more like a brother. I was only 6 years old when he and my sister married in Tolna in 1948. Due to the fact, most my family had to move out of state to work and live, visitation was at times years apart. However, when we were in N. Dak., their home was our home. We were always welcome and many a good conversation were had. Duane will be missed by all of us but did leave his "mark" on the world. To all his family, especially my sister and my nieces, our condolences. Prayers always with you. Bob & Kathy Schultz
