Fabian E. Noack
Fabian E. Noack passed away on December 12, 2014, at the age of 84, at Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND. Fabian was born on June 18, 1930, in New Rockford, ND, the son of Irene and Ernest Noack. He was raised on the family farm homesteaded by his grandfather in 1888, 4 miles east of New Rockford. Fabian was proud to boast of his 4-mile walk to school (uphill and against the wind both ways of course), and the fact that he had to stay in town away from his family as a first grader for much of the harsh winter of 1936. Fabian attended St. James Academy, New Rockford, and New Rockford High School. Fabian loved his New Rockford classmates, and remained lifelong friends with many of them. Based on his stories, he and his classmates knew how to have fun. After graduating from high school in 1948, Fabian attended the University of North Dakota and graduated with a B.S. degree in 1952. Upon graduation, Fabian entered the U.S. Air Force as a Second Lieutenant and served on active duty for two years during the Korean Conflict. Upon discharge from active duty, Fabian attended the University of North Dakota School of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1957. During law school, Fabian was proud to have his own reserved bar stool at Whitey’s, bearing his name. After law school, Fabian continued his affiliation with the Air Force, serving in the active reserve training program and as a liaison officer with the U.S. Air Force Academy and, after 15 years, was discharged with the rank of Captain. Fabian practiced law for nearly 55 years in Carrington, ND. For the first few years of his law career, he also moonlighted by working on the New Rockford family farm, exhibiting his tireless work ethic. He represented numerous farmer and utility cooperatives throughout North Dakota, loving the mix of politics and law that this work entailed. Fabian was elected Foster County States Attorney for multiple terms from 1959 to 2002, believed to be the longest continuous service in the history of North Dakota. He was appointed as the Carrington City Attorney for several decades. He enjoyed serving the people as a public official. Fabian loved his community and was a devoted public servant, serving on numerous boards. He was particularly passionate in his service to the University of Mary and the N.D. Association of Counties. He enjoyed his role as the clarinet player in the local “German Band.” He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over 50 years. While attending law school, Fabian met his future wife, Janet Homuth. They were married for over 50 years and made their homes in Carrington, ND, Fargo, ND and Big Cormorant Lake, MN. One of Fabian’s favorite clichés was “you only go around once”, and he lived his life accordingly. We celebrate a life well lived. He will be forever missed, but always remembered. Fabian is survived by his three children: Jo Marie Noack, Mukilteo, WA, Steven E. Noack (Cindy), Fargo, ND, and Rebecca Louise Noack, New Orleans, LA; six grandchildren: Killian Folse, New York City; Matthew Folse of New Orleans, LA; Zachary Noack, Grace Noack, Jeremy Noack, and Michael Noack of Fargo, ND; one brother, Lloyd (June) Noack, Grand Forks, ND and Hobe Sound, FL; and one sister-in-law, JoAnne (Glenn) Davis, Modesto, CA. Fabian was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, his parents, Ernest and Irene Noack, and two infant brothers. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter, 2631 12th Ave. S., Ste. C, Fargo, ND 58103; or Carrington Community Endowment Fund, 871 Main St., Carrington, ND 58421.

Message: I was Fabian's broker for I'm sure more than 40 years. More than a client, he was one of those special people that make them real characters. Always fun to talk to, I enjoyed our back and forth bantering for decades. When you first met or visited on the phone, he was one of those who seemed a bit scary on the outside, yet he was golden on the inside. We'll all miss him, yet relish the memories.
