Kenneth Nottestad

Kenneth Duane Nottestad was born April 1, 1937, the son of Clarence and Edna (Anderson) Nottestad in Maddock, ND. He attended school in Maddock. Ken worked with his dad and for a local farmer before entering the Army in 1961. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Ken went to work for Robertson Lumber Company in Park River and was eventually transferred to Carrington, ND.

On February 5, 1969, Ken was united in marriage to Jean Warner Kraemer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington. With this marriage, Ken became “dad to seven children, five of them still at home, Deb and Lori being only four and five years old. Ken was a very loving, caring and positive man. He had a lot of wisdom that he quietly and lovingly extended to his family. In 1977, Ken and Jean moved to Benson, AZ, and he went to work for Foxworth Lumber Co. They moved back to Sykeston, ND, in 1997. Since then Ken kept busy doing wood working jobs for people in the community, making items in his shop, and keeping up with his growing family.

Ken’s faith was quiet and strong. He was part of starting a new Nazarene Church in Benson, and active in the Church of the Nazarene in Carrington. Ken developed a love for wood working at a young age. Whether a cross or toy he was making from a stick of wood, a cabinet job, or a complete building, or working on the church, he was very meticulous to make sure the job was done right. There are wooden treasures in many homes that were built by Ken. He also had a love for cars and was a great teacher on how to take care of them. He liked old trucks, especially Dodge and International. He was in the process of restoring a 1937 International 1 ton truck.

Ken died at his home after a short battle with cancer on Sunday, April 7, 2013. He is survived by his wife Jean; daughters Deb (Ed) Carrasco, and Lori (Shane) Clark, both of Vail, AZ, Betty Kraemer, Benson, AZ, Merry Kraemer, Vail, AZ, Deanna (John) Lindeman, Douglas, WY, Donna (Jim) Sutherland, Sierra Vista, AZ; and one son, Jim (Lezlie) Kraemer, Oakes, ND; 25 Grandchildren; 29 Great Grandchildren; one sister, Linn Moraine, Vergas, MN; and one niece, Jen Autumn Star, Fargo, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
