Francis L. O'Connor
Francis O’Connor, age 93, of New Rockford, ND, died Sunday, August 14, 2016, at CHI St. Alexius Health, Carrington, ND. Francis Leonard O’Connor was born April 9, 1923, on the family farm in Wells County, rural New Rockford. He was the son of Hugh and Anna (Roffler) O’Connor, and grew up on the family farm. He attended Fairville Township grade school, and New Rockford High School.
Francis was united in marriage to Dorothy Simon on April 24, 1946, at St. John’s Catholic Church in New Rockford. They made their home in Munster Township, Eddy County, where they farmed and raised their children. They moved into New Rockford in 1981. They had recently celebrated their 70th Anniversary together. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, New Rockford, and a former member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, rural Bremen. Francis was an active member of Knights of Columbus, had served on the Board of Directors of Community Credit Union, and was a 31 year member of Eddy County Historical Society. He also was a member of New Rockford Eagles Club, Senior Citizens, North Central Planning Council, and had served on both City and County Commissions. Francis is survived by his wife Dorothy, sons Richard (Sandy), Edward (Kathy), both New Rockford; daughters Carol (Gary) Lynde, Garden Valley, Idaho, Colleen (Joe) Bachmeier, Owensboro, Kentucky, and Julie (Jeff) Klocke, Coleharbor, ND; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters Alice Allmaras, Charlestown, SC, and Beatrice (Jerry) Engels, New Rockford. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Hugh “Jack” (Rita), Robert “Bobby” (Hazel) and Raymond “Ray” (Donna Mae), and 3 sisters Elizabeth “Betty” (Herman) Schaefer, Mary (Clyde) Stevenson and Aileen (Duane) Knudsen.
