Message: Hi Tally, Arlys, Doug and Miles, I was thinking about you all and found the best neighbor ever's passing information.  I am so sorry.  My memories of you all are clear and wonderful.  I listened to Johnny talk about Guadacanal many times, but I don't think I understood the importance of what I was hearing.  I saw Catherine Walker's comment and wondered if there is a copy of the recording..and any documentation of his stories?  I would love to listen and read. Your family was a rock my life growing up on the farm.  From sleeping outside in a tent to butchering chickens to Puss and Boots to going out in the field for wild asparagus.  My sympathy, gratefulness and love to each of you.  Jerilyn

Message: My heart is full - of love for John and the family.  My heart is breaking - for our loss as survivors, but not for John.  As a man of faith, he knew that our reward for a good life on this earth is eternal life in Heaven... he has gone to his just and well deserved rewards.

I feel very fortunate to be blessed by the love John had for my father and for our family.  We will never be strangers in his house.

I send condolences to the family, words can not express the depth of my feelings for you all.  I will hold dear the memories we made the last time we were all together.

Message: I was first introduced to John Paulson by phone when Cathy Paulson recommended John's personal experiences at Guadalcanal to me, something that she thought might enhance the book I was writing at the time. From the very beginning John embraced me and was wonderfully supportive, recounting so many of his memories, especially of my late Uncle, Clarence Bonderud, who died on the Canal. In 2008 John gave me a personal interview of his war years and  experiences and allowed me to record them. John became a very close friend and most helpful historian, sharing his love of God and deep details of his experiences in the 164th North Dakota Regiment. John will be missed greatly but what he left behind will out shine his passing. I rejoice with John that he is now in heaven, surrounding the throne of God with all his military buddies. Good job John, for a life well done!! My prayers go out to his wife and family now and always.

Message: This man was my second father, and no other man (he'll always be "Johnny" to me) or family (the Paulsons) have I loved more than Adolph Steinbrenner and my own.  Summers on the farm with Johnny and his family were some of the best times of my life.  I treasure them now 44 years after my last visit.  Truly he was a man of integrity, honor and compassion.  And this lives on in his children.  How fortunate I am to have had a man such as him in my life, even with the distance between us.  And what a pleasure to have spent some time hearing and feeling his stories about WWII and my dad, our summers together, and searching for those wonderful rocks during our last visit. My heartfelt sympathy to the family, to all that have loved him - and those that never had to opportunity to meet such a man.  Johnny - love ya always!!!
