Edwin “Ed” Peterson, 93, New Rockford, ND, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.

Ed was born on April 25, 1923, in Sheyenne, ND, the son of Elmer and Edith (Throlson) Peterson. He attended school and grew up in the Sheyenne area.  He married Sigrid Anderson from New Rockford on November 16, 1952, at rural New Rockford.   Ed and Sigrid farmed together east of New Rockford and were long-time members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where he was active in church leadership for many years. Ed was dedicated to his family, hard work and living a simple farm life.   Sigrid Peterson died February 2, 2012.

Ed had a passion for farming and was proud to actively participate in the farming operation alongside his son Larry up through last summer.  Ed also loved flying and airplanes and had his own plane and pilot’s license at one time.  He was able to enjoy a last flight just a few months ago with his special flying buddy Doug Smith.  Ed moved to the Heritage House Assisted Living Center, New Rockford, in November 2013, where he lived until February 2016.  There he enjoyed socializing with friends and playing many games of whist and pinochle. Ed was well known for his wit and dry sense of humor.

Ed is survived by his children Lois (Brad) Cogdill, Fargo, and Larry, New Rockford;  his grandchildren Jesse (Kim) Peterson , Watertown, SD, and Meghan Cogdill, Bozeman, MT; great-grandchildren Abigail, Wyatt and Weston Peterson; sister-in-law Marjorie Anderson, New Rockford;  and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.   

Ed was preceded in death by his wife Sigrid, parents, stepfather Fred Smith, brother Rienold, and sisters Alma “Audrey” and Genevieve “Gen”
