Edmund L Pewe, age 100, of Ashley, ND, formerly of McHenry, ND passed away Friday, July 4, 2014, at the Ashley Nursing Home, Ashley, ND. Edmund was born March 9, 1914, on the family farm in the house that he continued to live in until 1997. His parents were Charlie and Rosa (Barnes) Pewe of McHenry, ND. He farmed with his father until his parents moved into town. Ed raised registered Holsteins in the early years along with small grains and later switched to raising Herefords. He married Cleone P. Stein of Wimbledon, ND, on December 20, 1941 in Valley City, ND. To this union a daughter, Karen, was born. Cleone passed away in October of 2009 after 67 years of marriage. Edmund was baptized and confirmed in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of McHenry where he served on the church council for many years. He was also a member of the McHenry School Board until 1963. He served on the Foster County Social Service Board from 1967-1997. Edmund was a charter member of the McHenry Senior Citizens Club, and during most elections was called on to be a judge, inspector or clerk. He also loved to read, work on his lawn and garden and was a willing volunteer in helping with the upkeep and maintenance of the church and Senior Citizens Center in McHenry. Edmund retired from farming in 1974, but he and Cleone continued to live on the farm until 1997 when they moved to be closer to their daughter and her family. Message: Karen and family,So sorry to hear of your dad's passing. He lived a long life. I well remember your parents as living on the corner of highway 20, just three miles west of the farm where I grew up. I remember your mother Cleone, teaching vocal music to us in high school. I'm sure it must have been frustrating for her, teaching a bunch of boys! I also graduated with your cousin, Larry, and your cousin Allen is married to Dorrine Miller, who is my 2nd cousin. Anyway, please accept my sympathy.
Larry Lunne
