Burton H. Piper

Burton H. Piper, age 97, of New Rockford, ND, died Sunday, January 22, 2017, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford. 

Burton Harold Piper was born June 6, 1919, in Tiffany Township of Eddy County, North Dakota, the son of Albert and Edythe (Johnson) Piper.  He attended school in New Rockford, and then received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering at NDSU, Fargo, in 1941.  In 1951, as part of his career, Burton took business courses at UCLA, Los Angeles, CA. 

On March 20, 1949, Burton married Emma Jane Beckman in Los Angeles, CA. Their daughter, Judith, was born on September 1, 1952.   

Burton married Raissa El Sayed on January 31, 1972, in San Mateo, CA.  Raissa died October 22, 2003.

Burton worked 40 years with Westinghouse Electric Corporation of Pittsburgh, PA.  Following his “retirement”, Burton then worked as a consultant for Westinghouse for many years.  His work had caused him to live in many cities and countries: Pittsburgh, PA, Provo, UT, Los Angeles, CA, Whittier, CA, Seattle, WA, Saratoga, CA, San Mateo, CA, Teheran, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Anaheim Hills, CA, and Belmont, CA.  He moved to New Rockford in 2011.

He was a member of Elks Lodge #1112 of San Mateo, CA.

Burton is survived by many nieces and nephews, and by the Johnson and Piper family relatives in North Dakota. 

 

He was preceded in death by his wife Raissa, his daughter Judith Piper, who died May 15, 2010, his brother Rollo and his sister Ruth Brandes.
