Alvin Polries

Alvin Joseph Polries, age 86, of Sykeston, ND, passed into the arms of the God he loved and believed in on August 20, 2014, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, ND.

Alvin J. Polries was born August 3, 1928, to Mathew and Elizabeth (Thury) Polries in Sykeston. He attended Johnson Township School in rural Sykeston until the eighth grade when he continued to work on the farm full time. Alvin was proud to say that after the fact he went back and completed his GED.

Alvin dedicated his entire life farming the family farm his dad started. His dad would be proud to know that Alvin's years of dedication turned the humble beginnings into an operation that supported many families over the years and still does today. He married the love of his life, Patsy (Marcotte/Cook) on October 29, 1965. Patsy was a widow with 7 children when she met Alvin and as she always said, "he was the answer to my prayers!" It gave Alvin great joy to take a ride with Patsy to "check the crops" or walk through the feedlot. Alvin enjoyed his family, farming, ranching, oil exploration, friends and telling jokes.

Alvin had a giving heart and many in the Sykeston community will remember him for the help and support he gave them in times of need. All who knew him also will remember him as the greatest joke teller there ever was. He was telling jokes up until he took his last breath.

He is survived by his children whom he loved and provided for: Tom (Toni) Marcotte, Sykeston, Cindy (Wayne) Anderson, Sykeston, Shawn (Janelle) Marcotte, Carrington, Jodee (Greg) Buhr, Eagan, MN, and Rob (Lisa) Marcotte, Sykeston. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; his sister, Lorraine Carr, Carrington; and brother, Donald Polries, Carrington.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, Patsy; sons Brian, Steve and Joey; grandson, Brian; his parents Mathew and Elizabeth Polries; 2 sisters, Eleanor Knight and Evelyn Warren; one brother, Louis Polries; his in-laws Ann & Pat Cook, Ethel and Murel Marcotte, and other treasured  family members and friends.

Message: My heart and prayers are with all of you as you celebrate Uncle Alvin's life.  So many great memories but especially remember Alvin's love for children and how he impacted me growing up.  Alvin caught us a bunny around Easter every year, taught us how to catch gophers so we could take gopher tails to the fair, bought us our very first "phonograph", and taught me how to drive a motorcycle.  Sending our love and peace to the entire Marcotte/Polries family.
