Message: I just read about Robin's passing on Facebook.  She moved away from our area (International Falls) a couple of years ago.  She saddened!  She had a profound impact on everyone she met at work and around the tables.  Her Spirit...  my God.  I know the Lord, Gitchi Manidou, Spirit of the Universe has embraced her soul and stopped the suffering.  Still, her children must ache.  I shall pray for both of them as often as I think of all of them.  God bless all of them and may Robin RIP.

Message: My heart is full. I just finished watching the documentary of The Kind-Hearted Woman. I am amazed at Robin's strength and wished I had her story during the time I was going through domestic violence. Her story encouraged me to push forward with my social work degree and confirmed the difference I want to make in the lives of battered women and abused children. I know that there are no words that I can say that will ease the pain of losing a loved one, but please know that I will remember Darian and Anthony IV in my prayers. I am deeply saddened to learn of her demise and pray she did not suffer. May God comfort those who loved and supported her.

Message: I have used the vision of Robin telling her story to demonstrate the damage that occurs when young children are not cared for and nurtured. Hers was a powerful message told with such courage and beauty. Her message resonated with the pain felt by children here in Australia. We thought her work was a happy ending. This loss will be greatly felt. I hope other women will continue her journey to help children. What a beautiful legacy she has left in Darian and Anthony.

Message: My son and I sat watching Robin's documentary. My son learned compassion for her struggle. He was able to see our lives in Robin's and understands now how hard it was for me to be a single mum, Today I watched myself in Robin, working hard to save my children and exhausting myself to make it. Today Robin reminded me everything is ok as long as my children are safe and we are together. I wish I were there for Robin to be a friend I think she really needed one and it may have made the difference. But Robin has changed me forever and I am so grateful to her and the man who saw her story and new that it were special. God bless & thank you for changing my life forever for the good. PS -I am so sad to hear she passed and thought, what was all the hard work for? life's not fair! but I see her daughter now and I see that Robin's fight and hard work gave her daughter the life she has now at it is good. She saved her children in the end. So strong a woman  her testimony will change the lives of millions.

Message: While researching the novel Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, I came across the Robin's documentary. Once I started, it was impossible to stop. I found myself crying in the afternoons in my classroom alone... after having watched another heart-wrenching segment of Robin's life. I couldn't believe the suffering she endured at the hands of people who were supposed to protect her. And yet she managed to have love in her heart for the wounded. Robin, you are loved by people you don't even know. You are an angel now, watching over the children. May you have peace and true happiness in the next...

Message: DON'T CRY ...

I'm the laughter of children playing everywhere,

I'm the sparkle burning between young lovers,

I'm the warmth of a mother holding her child ...

Don't cry ...

I'm a rumble of thunder roaring across the darkened skies

I'm a flash of lightening streaking across the wide open plains,

I'm a distant cloud bringing the promise of rain ...

Don't cry ...

I'm holding hands with angels lost somewhere wonderful and sweet,

I'm at the side of my creator forgiven, saved and born again,

I'm always with you, just as there is a mother nature and a human soul ...

Don't cry ...

do not stand at my grave and cry

I'm not there, I didn't die ...

I'll live in your memory, I'll always be there ...

Message: I didn't know Robin, but I watched and enjoyed "Kind Hearted Woman", so upon learning of Robin's passing I felt sad and I sat down and prayed for her and her children.

She was an amazing woman and she did a lot to help others, helping to lead them from within the shadows of shame, because of what had been done to them.

My prayers and condolences to Robin Poor Bear's children and family.

Message: It is with great sadness that we express our condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Robin PoorBear (Kind Hearted Woman).

The loss of Robin is one felt by every child, woman, victim of domestic and sexual assault. Robin was a pillar in the American Indian Communities everywhere. Robin offered invaluable insight to all disciplines, especially victim service providers. Robin's legacy and her tireless efforts in these areas provided changes that will be everlasting. Robin provided her heart and soul where it was needed and never hesitated when she was called upon.

As these words were written and the ladies and I discussed this tribute in your honor, you gave us your blessing through what we felt was your "prankster" way. You rang the gate bell twice as to say you approved, we believe. You rang it one more time and offerings were made. One of the elders had an experience without knowledge of what was happening. We are truly grateful you provided your blessing and approval with a final visit.

You will forever hold a special place in my heart sister! My family and I will always miss your visits, your welcoming hugs and your laugh.

Until we meet and visit again, I will miss you always. Love you very much sister.

Message: Nature's first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf's a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

Robert Frost surely had you in mind.  You are truly golden. You taught me so such sister, you taught me forgiveness, you taught me to find my inner strength and use my voice.  You taught me about true love and friendship, you taught me that family didn't have to be blood.  I will miss you everyday that I awake and take a breath.  I will always treasure the buckskin dress you made, you will always have a place in my home and my heart. I promised a long time ago to always watch over Anthony and Darian and I will do my very best.  Thank you for sharing your short life with me…..I hope you are at peace and no longer in pain.

Message: I was saddened to see that this tremendously gracious spirit has left the world.  I watched the documentary and I was so impressed with her tenacity to persevere despite so many set backs. I thought she was brave and kind despite all that had been heaped upon her. She was a remarkable person without a doubt. The one truth that emerged again and again throughout the film was her humanity. I guess the fact that she was human meant she was mortal as well. I'm praying for her children--that they will find someone who will continue to help them contend with their past as well as to help them gain a bright future that she so clearly wanted to provide for them. My sincerest condolences.

Message: A friend posted the news to my facebook feed. I am SOOO sad to learn of the passing of dear Robin! I did not have the honor of knowing Robin and her precious children but I DID watch the documentary several times and it spoke to me on such a deep level as I am a survivor of sexual abuse and have family members who deal with domestic violence. After I saw the documentary, I contacted the director of the rape crisis center here in Maine, telling her all about Robin, her compelling and strong presence and story and hoped we could somehow make it a reality to have her come speak! It is too late... I wanted to write to her.... I am too late!

I am so sorry for your tremendous loss, Darian and Anthony and family/friends. Please know your mom lives on within you and that YOU can carry her legacy forward if you so choose--and in whatever WAY you choose. In fact, just the fact that you exist, Darian and Anthony is a gift to this world and you guys ARE her legacy--she obviously loved you dearly --and that love is still there, she is still with you in spirit and in truth.

My sincerest condolences to all who love Robin...

Message: To Robin's children and family:

My tears keep spilling out the shock and sadness since learning that  this courageous woman has left us for her spirit journey.  There is no explaining or understanding when it seems our loves leave far too suddenly, soon, or young and we wish with all our hearts to hold them awhile longer.  What I pray that you can come to one day understand and find comfort through knowing; however, is that Robin during her time on earth suffered such wrongs and yet she found the courage within herself to give the gift of life and hope to countless individual people who before hearing her powerful story and messages, suffered in darkness, isolation, shame, and despair. Far beyond those who were oh so blessed to meet this truly beautiful woman and hear her words, she touched and will continue to touch the WORLD, given she left her PBS story behind!  My prayers and tears are with you, and I ask you remember her honesty and courage and love. Please forever carry her memory in a proud and honorable way. She earned this honor by sharing the most painful and darkest moments of her life to help bring light to the lives of others. And now that Creator has called her home, we must carry on as courageous as she.  Sending love, sharing tears, thanking Robin Poor Bear for her gifts of hope, courage, and you children - her most precious gifts to this world!
