Frances Richter

Frances K. Richter of Carrington, ND, died Friday, January 20, 2017, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND.

Frances Ardell Kutz was born on July 30, 1932, on the NE ¼ of Sec 2-145-69 of Johnson Township near Sykeston, North Dakota to Theodore and Myrtle Kutz.  The family moved to the Kunkel Farm and later to the farm where Chuck Seil now lives.  From there the family moved to Lodi, California, and then back to Sykeston.

On January 15, 1951, Frances married Raymond Richter at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Sykeston.  The couple farmed there for nearly 35 years.  Jefferey Mark was born February 8, 1955 and Jamie Michael on November 2, 1956. Raymond passed away December 13, 1985.

Frances served as president of the St. Elizabeth’s School PTO, president of Sykeston Homemakers, treasurer and financial secretary of the St. Elizabeth’s Society, and was a Sykeston Boys 4-H leader.  She attended St. Elizabeth’s Church, as well as taught CCD there.  Frances and Raymond loved to dance, bowl, and play cards with friends.

Frances loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Family meals were a treasured gathering time.  Her family loved her homemade buns and cinnamon rolls. She had a special interest in family history and wrote a book on the Kutz family, going back before the Revolutionary War. Frances loved to crochet, knit, garden, and raise flowers.  She devoted time decorating the church and tending to the flower beds there.

She is survived by her children Jeff (Janine Thull) Richter, Menomonie, WI; Jamie (Christy) Richter, Sykeston, ND; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She is survived by six siblings Ted Kutz, Madera, CA, Leonard Kutz, Florence, AZ, Beverly (Gary) Linafelter, Arizona City, AZ, Amelia “Mimi”(Larry) Boettcher, Cambridge, MN, Wilbur (Dawn) Kutz, Bowdon, Sandy (Craig) Poulsen, Arizona City, AZ, as well as many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Rosella Richter, Sykeston and Alma Richter, Carrington.

Message: Our deepest sympathies go out to the Richter and Kutz families. Frances will always be fondly remembered by the Polries/Kutz/Barry families for her gentle spirit, her loving ways and her great laugh!
