Leona Richter

Leona Richter, age 86, of Sykeston, ND, died Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Carrington Health Center, Carrington, ND.

Leona Spitzer was born August 26, 1927, at Carrington, ND, the daughter of Ferdinant and Pauline (Eichle) Spitzer.  She grew up in the Sykeston area, and attended schools at Sykeston.

Leona was united in marriage to Francis H. Richter on October 25, 1945, at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church at Sykeston.  They farmed south of Sykeston their entire married life.  Francis Richter died August 1, 1989.  Leona moved into Sykeston in 1999.

She was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, and of the St. Elizabeth’s Society.  Leona enjoyed traveling in the fall with Francis.  She had crocheted many afghans and did embroidering of dish towels.  However, she really enjoyed raising flowers, having a garden, and especially mowing lawns!

Leona is survived by one daughter and three sons: Ed (Rita), Sioux Falls, SD, Karen (Don) Schumacher, Jamestown, ND, Ron (Vickie), Omaha, NE, and David (Anne), Sykeston; also 12 Grandchildren, 12 Great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Arnold (Coral) Spitzer, Fulton, IL, Bert (Shirley) Spitzer, Clinton, Iowa; one sister, Alma Richter, Carrington; and two sisters-in-law, Frances K. Richter, Carrington, Rosella Richter, Sykeston, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers John, Henry, and Ferdie, and one sister Laura.

In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests memorials to Mercy Home Health and Hospice, c/o Carrington Heath Center.
