Esther Scanson

 

Esther Scanson, age 91, of Grace City, ND, died Sunday, August 25, 2013, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND.

Esther Pauline Grafsgaard was born on June 29, 1922, the daughter of Alfred and Anna Marie (Pederson) Grafsgaard at McHenry, ND. She was raised and attended country school and graduated High School in McHenry. Esther worked for neighbors during the summers.

On November 9, 1941, Esther was united in marriage to Odes Scanson at McHenry Lutheran Church in McHenry. They farmed in the Grace City area. Odes died January 4, 1998. She lived on the farm until 2006 and then moved into Grace City. Esther has resided at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford since May 2013.

She was a member of Grace City United Methodist Church, Grace City Senior Citizens Club (site manager), and Grace City U.M.W. Esther worked at the School House Café in Grace City in various capacities.

Esther is survived by two sons, Rev. Arthur (Lorraine) Scanson, Bismarck, and Alan (Janet) Scanson, Grace City, and ND; two daughters, Dianna David, Milwaukee OR, and Sheila Scanson, Custer, SD; six grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren and four great great step grandchildren .

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter, Barbara Jean, one brother Art Grafsgaard, one sister Norma Odland.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials to charity of your choice.
