Oveda Scanson
Oveda Karen Scanson died August 24, 2017, in Tempe, AZ, at the age of 95. She was born May 1, 1922, in Foster County, North Dakota, to Carl T. and Emma (Hatch) Scanson. She graduated from Grace City High School. Following graduation, she moved to Chicago, IL, joining her sister Ardyce. Oveda worked at Coats & Clark for over 40 years, while also helping care for her nieces Laurell and Karen. Upon her retirement in 1985, she moved to her home in Pell Lake, WI. In 2002, Oveda moved to Tempe, AZ where she lived with her niece Laurell, until her death. She spent her summer vacations on the farm in Grace City, cooking and baking for her brothers. When she was 40 years old, she asked her brothers to teach her to drive, as she was tired of riding the train between Chicago and North Dakota. She will be remembered for the cooking and caring of her brothers, sisters, and their families. Oveda is survived by her special nieces Laurell Charles and Karen Swanson, Tempe, AZ; her sister Winnifred Lord, Port Ludlow, WA; brothers Tilman and John Scanson, both of New Rockford. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Oveda was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers Odes, Kennard, Owen and Bill, and 2 sisters Ardyce and Geraldine.
