MaryLee Scott

MaryLee Scott, age 76, of Carrington, ND, died Thursday, March 22, 2012, at her hone of natural causes.

MaryLee Scott was born on March 2, 1936, the daughter of Clarence and Gwendolyn (Smith) Scott in Carrington ND. She grew up in Carrington and graduated from Carrington High School.  MaryLee was united in marriage to Oswald M. Lura in Carrington on July 11, 1954. They lived in Seattle, WA from 1954 to 1957, and then returned to Carrington. In 1966, they moved to Huntington Beach, CA. MaryLee and Oswald were divorced in 1970.

She worked as a waitress most of her life and held a job at ACS in CA. She also owned the Mi Cocina restaurant which opened in 1995, Rags Discount store and 912 Main Antiques and Consignment store on Main Street in Carrington.

In 2004, MaryLee purchased a home on 11th St. South in Carrington where she lived out her love of gardening. On her plot of dirt, she taught, learned, and grew like her flowers. She gave advice, took advice, worked the land, cooked her spoils, gave them away and relinquished her knowledge to all who were willing to receive it. MaryLee also loved cooking, painting, music, history, politics, and she even kept bees at one time in her life. But most of all she loved being with her family and cats.

She was a member and secretary of the Federated Church in Carrington. MaryLee was also a member of the Federated Women’s Guild, Circle of Naomi of the Federated Church and a member of the Sierra Club.

MaryLee is survived by five sons and five daughters, Wally (Annette) Lura, Mariposa, CA, Vicki (Steve) Lura-Graham, North Fork, CA, Paula (Tim) Lura-Tarr, Ahwahnee, CA, Doug Lura, Mariposa, CA, Wade (Monica) Lura, Hazen, ND, Robin (Leasa) Lura, Barlow, ND, Dawn (Mike) Munson, Grace City, ND, Auralee (Mike) Pyle, Missionaries in Micronesia, Loralee (Dale) Holt, Lake Elsinore, CA, Anthony (Sandra) Lura, Carrington, ND; thirty-six grandchildren; twenty-six (plus) great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Robert (Marlene) Scott, Carrington; and three cats, Pearl Taz, and Spottie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Shuni and Patty Cat.

Memorials may be sent to the Federated Church in Carrington, ND.
