Patricia M. “Patty” Shaw, age 69, of Ft. Totten, ND, passed away Tuesday June 3, 2014, in her home.

Patricia Marie Herman was born on December 14, 1944, in Devils Lake, ND, to William and Flora Herman. She attended Pierre Indian School, Flandreau Indian School, and also St. Michael Little Flower School.

Patricia was later united in marriage to Roger Shaw. They moved to Oakland, California, for a time, and then returned to live at Spirit Lake in the mid 1970’s.  Of this marriage they had a daughter, Adele.

Patty worked many years at SMC and also many years at DTI until her retirement.

Patty was the sweetest lady you could know. Everywhere she went she had her iced tea. One of Patty’s many pastime hobbies was playing bingo, also playing slot machines at the casino, and doing puzzles at her home. She enjoyed travelling to powwows. Her more favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and collecting coins to fill coin books for her many great grandchildren.

Patty is survived by her daughter Adele (Ambrose) Thompson of St. Michael; daughter/niece Angela (Murle) Richotte of Ft. Totten; grandchildren Dustin (Melanie) Dunn Sr., Michael Dunn Sr., Ambrose Thompson III, Tannis Shaw, Blisse (David) Thompson, Brisa Thompson;  Goddaughter Angel Richotte; brother Joe (Carol) Herman, Warwick, ND; sisters Marceline St Pierre of Devils Lake, Estelle (John) Hennager of Cando, ND, sister-in-law Ernestine Herman of St. Michael; aunt Moriah Boyer; step-father Pierre Culbertson of the Crow Hill District; granddaughters Heidi Richotte, Bobby Richotte; special great granddaughter Kailee Dunn; special niece Holly (Justin) Blacksmith; special granddaughter-in-law, Melanie Wolters;  and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband Roger Shaw, who died in 1998; her parents; sister Linda; brothers Chummy, Daniel, Bob and James Herman; nephews William Herman and Justin Littleghost; grandson Mark Fassett Sr. and Daniel St. Peirre Sr; and great-granddaughter Matisha Fassett.
