Lester Smith, age 85, of Sheyenne, ND, died Friday, May 27, 2016, at his home in Sheyenne under the care of his family and Hospice.

Lester Paul Smith was born December 31, 1930, in Bush Township of Eddy County, ND, the son of Paul and Myrtle (Throlson) Smith.   He grew up there and attended country school.  Lester began farming at an early age, and continued throughout his life.   He was once married to Elma Edwardson.

Lester enjoyed playing cards, loved to travel, and enjoyed trips to casinos and pow-wows.  He was a member of the New Rockford Eagles.  He had been confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church, and later transferred membership to First Lutheran Church, both Sheyenne.

Lester is survived by four daughters, Deanna Erickson, New Rockford, Denise Hanson, Fargo, Pam Loree, Minot, Patty (Richard Nerlien) Smith, Fargo,  and their mother, Elma Smith, New Rockford; 13 grandchildren and 10 Great-grandchildren:  Christopher (Bobbi) Bichler and Hannah, Abigail, Dashyl, & Baby Bichler (arriving August); Carissa (Darin) Engstrom and Olivia; Travis Hanson, Thea (James) Grindeland  and Estelle; Paul Loree, Patrick (Suzie) Loree and Liam & Eliza, Bethany (Dave) Lindsay and Charity & Gabriella, Phillip (Kirsten) Loree, Payton Loree, Jeremy Smith-Nerlien, Jade Smith-Nerlien, Tiffany Smith-Nerlien, and Tate Smith-Nerlien.  Also one sister, Ellen (Allen) Messner, Sheyenne, and several nieces & nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Myrtle; four brothers-in-law, James, Elvin, Edwin, & Norman Edwardson; and one sister-in-law Mary Ellen Huff.
