Gary Lynn Stangeland, 57 died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at his home, in Garland, Texas.  Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church, Plano, Texas.  Rev. James Woelmer officiated.  Pallbears were Cory Stangeland, Brandon Froiland, Matthew Habermas, John Ekren, Jeff Ellis, and Mario Garcia. 

Committal and burial will be at James River Cemetery, rural Carrington, ND, on Saturday, February 28, at 2:00 p.m.  A time of remembrance and visiting will follow in the fellowship hall at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kensal, ND.

Gary was born October 2, 1957, at Carrington, North Dakota, the son of Carl and Marlys (Pierce) Stangeland.  He was baptized at James River Lutheran Church, Juanita, ND, and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kensal, ND.  Gary was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Plano, Texas.

Gary had the fondest memories growing up on his parents’ farm in Kensal.  He graduated from high school in 1975.  On August 3, 1979, Gary was united in marriage to Marlys Hoffman at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kensal.  They lived the next 35 years in various southern states, the majority in Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Marlys; two sons, Chris and Kenny, of Dallas; two daughters, Angela (Rev. Matthew) Habermas of Georgetown, Ontario; Sara (Rev. Brandon) Froiland of Kansas City, Missouri; seven grandchildren (Jonathan, Joseph, Lydia, Isaac, one lost, and two due this year); his father Carl (Pauline) Stangeland of Jamestown, ND; one brother Cory Stangeland of Kensal, ND, and one sister Pam Short of Fargo, ND

He was preceded in death by one brother, Curtis, and his mother, Marlys.
