John T. Steinbach, age 88, of New Rockford, ND died Thursday, August 27, 2015, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.

John Thomas Steinbach was born November 11, 1926, on the family ranch near Munster, ND, the son of Jacob and Matilda (Hartl) Steinbach. He graduated from Central High in 1944, and then went on to attend the University of ND, graduating in May 1950, with a BSC degree.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann Taleff on June 6, 1950, at Sacred Heart church in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He entered the United States Air force in October 1950, during the Korean War, and continued to serve for 20 years traveling around the country and overseas. John was discharged as a LT/Colonel in 1970. Following his discharge, John moved to El Dorado Hills, California, where he attended the local colleges and obtained additional degrees in Real Estate and Animal Science. Subsequently, he became a Real Estate Broker and worked for Farm Credit Bank until 1988. In June 2001, John and his wife Elizabeth returned to New Rockford and the Singing Hills Ranch they established in 1950. Elizabeth Steinbach died September 7, 2011.

John is survived by a son Mark of Bismarck, ND a daughter, Mary (Dennis) Gehrtz, New Rockford; a granddaughter LaRae Gehrtz, two grandsons Jacob and Aaron Steinbach; three  great-grandchildren Arilynn Gehrtz, Rori and Xavier Steinbach; one brother Robert (Marian) Steinbach, Bismarck, and a sister, Sr. Geraldine Steinbach, Fargo, ND.

He is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth, one son Rory J., who died in 1961, one infant granddaughter, his parents, brother Richard, sister Marcella Klocke
