James "Jim" Straley

James Straley, 89, Carrington, ND, also known as “Jim or Sandy”, died peacefully surrounded by family Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo.
Jim was born January 6, 1926 to Earl and Anna (Sullivan) Straley in Carrington. As a HAM Radio operator, he graduated from Carrington High School and then served in the US Army where he played tuba in their band and later attended cryptography school at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. After the war ended, he was honorably discharged after his father had fallen ill.
On November 10, 1952, he married Theresa Marie Wolf of Bordulac, ND, and together they farmed and raised 16 children northeast of Carrington. Jim was very active in his community, volunteering with the Carrington Ambulance Service, flagging for the stock car races in Barlow, serving as a Township Supervisor, driving bus for the school and Carrington Wrestling Team, as well as serving many other community programs. In the 2009-2010 school year, he was honored as Wrestling Fan of the Year.
He leaves behind Theresa, his wife of 62 years, and their children: Joseph, Avon, MN; Margaret Straley, Sioux Falls, SD; Monica (Brad) Pavek, Fargo; Jeannine (Jim) Nayes, Sun Fish Lake, MN; Kathleen Berdahl, Carrington; LaVonne (Tom Fisher) Straley, Sandy Springs, GA; Paul, Carrington; Denise Jubert, Maple Grove, MN; Amelia (Joseph) Tintes, West Fargo; Rynetta Renford, Roseville, MN; Leo (Dianne), Carrington; Ruth (Bill) Mangino, Mesa, AZ; Martin, Minot; Julia Straley, West Fargo; Lawrence (Dawn), South Haven, MN; and David (Bonnie), Bismarck; 25 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren; his brother Duane (Patty) Straley, Savage, MN, and his sister Mary Ann (husband Wayne Johnson) Straley, Princeton, MN.
Memorial donations preferred to the Carrington Cemetery and the Carrington Wrestling Club.
