Owen "Clint" Thurlow
Owen C. Thurlow, 96, died on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, ND, where he had lived for approximately two months. Owen C. “Clint” Thurlow was born August 23, 1920, the 4th of 5 children, in Glenfield Township, ND, to William and Othilda Thurlow. He attended Glenfield and Haven Township schools. He spent 39 months as a radio repairman in the Pacific Theatre in WW II. Upon his return he began farming with his father and brother Clifford southeast of Carrington. In 1950, he met and married Grace Maren Clausen of Hesper, ND; they were married 55 years until Grace’s death in May of 2005. He was active in the Carrington community, serving many years on the school board, the Haven Township board, and as a Foster County Commissioner. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on numerous church boards. He was named NDSU’s Outstanding County Agriculturalist for Foster County in the year 2000. One of his many interests was designing and building things. In 1972, he built a lake cottage in sections during the winter at his farm and hauled them to Fish Lake (near Pelican Rapids MN) the next spring, where he finished putting the building together. He and Grace thoroughly enjoyed their time at the lake and especially sharing it with their grandchildren. He retired from farming at age 90. Owen is survived by his five children, Mary Lake, Fargo, ND; Margaret (Ed) Lipton, Grand Junction, CO; Kathryn Thurlow, Edina, MN; Thomas (Tammi) Thurlow, Carrington, ND; and Jane (Jay) Fasteen, Vancouver, WA; and by four grandchildren, Anika (Nathan) Pillatzke, Rachel (John) Lindstrom, Drew (Kate) Thurlow, and Will Lyons; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, in-laws (Soren and Ruth Clausen), three brothers (Lloyd, Richard, Clifford Thurlow) and one sister (Hazel Nysted), as well as his family through marriage (Hilton Clausen and Earl and Jean Day).

Message: Margaret, Tom and family members
Our condolences to you on the passing of Owen. He always would chat briefly with me whenever he visited the store. What I remember most of Owen was his handshake. Those large strong hands represented his years of labor on the farm and that squeeze of your hand meant his sincerity of his interest in your life.
May God Bless his memory and legacy and your family.
