Robert Andrew Timm

Robert A. Timm, age 89, Kensal, ND, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at North Dakota Veterans Home, Lisbon, ND, where he resided over the last three years.

Robert Andrew Timm was born April 9, 1926, in Kensal, ND, the son of Leo and Anna (Forsberg) Timm.  He grew up on a farm three miles south of Kensal.  After graduation from Kensal High School, Robert entered the Army on November 23, 1945, as a Flight Traffic Clerk for the Army Air Force.  He had taken care of injured and sick soldiers transported home during World War II.  Robert shared responsibilities for maintaining cabin discipline and security of cargo.  He served until December 9, 1946, and received the World War II Victory Medal and Air Crew Members Badge (wings).  After discharge from the military, Robert taught school for a short time, until he married Helen Neva on November 20, 1947, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Kensal.

In addition to his role of father and raising twelve children, Robert was skilled at being a farmer, rancher, carpenter, painter, and railroad worker.  He constructed many steel bins around the area.  He was known for being a hard worker and an incredibly resilient man, who persevered through many difficult life situations. Through the years, Robert maintained a great love for life and his family. He was a story teller, a lover of history and his country, a dedicated reader, and a music lover, who also enjoyed dancing. Robert was a Jack of all Trades, a true patriot, a bingo and card player, and a letter writer.  He loved to be outdoors, enjoying nature; trees, flowers, weather, scenic rides, and picking chokecherries and apples.  Robert had a zest for life.

In September 2009, after the death of his wife, Robert was escorted by his son, James Timm, also a veteran, to Washington, D.C. on the North Dakota Rough Riders Honor Flight for World War II Veterans; which was one of the highlights of his life.  Robert will be greatly missed by family, friends, and everyone who knew him.  He touched many lives, both young and old.

Robert is survived by his twelve children, Terry (Helen) Timm, Milnor, ND, Lorraine (Dale) Lutjens, Mandan, ND, Roberta (Scott) Edin, Amery, WI, Deborah (Denny) Kral, Princeton, MN, James (Lyla) Timm, Mandan, Michael Timm, Kensal, Curt (Tanya) Timm, Kensal, Peggy (Paul) Spitzer, Jamestown, ND, Jeanne (David) Stautz, Roseville, MN, Barbara Greshik (John Kloeckner), Dilworth, MN, Mark (Brenda) Timm, Lakewood, CO, and Lisa Olstad (Ron Kelley), Valley City, ND; thirty-two grandchildren; forty-six great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerome Timm, Valley City, and one sister, Darlene Rask, of St. Paul, MN.

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen; his parents; brothers Russell, Louis, Leon, and one sister, Dorothy Junell; one granddaughter, Michelle Paasch; one grandson, Bryan Edin.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Lisbon Veterans Home for the wonderful care that was provided to Robert.
