Almyra Topp

Almyra Topp, age 81, of Carrington, ND, recently a resident at Ave Maria Village Jamestown, ND, died Friday, June 1, 2018, at Jamestown Regional Medical Center, Jamestown, ND.

Almyra Marylyn Orvik was born November 19, 1936 at Michigan, ND, the daughter of Alvin and Selma (Havn) Orvik.  She lived in Michigan for two years and then the family moved to Washington State for six years.  They moved back to North Dakota and lived in the Aneta/McVille area.  Almyra attended rural school in Nelson County and Graduated from McVille High School in 1954.  She attended summer school at Mayville State Teachers College (MSU) and taught school in Cherry Lake Township, Eddy County and Loretta Township School in Grand Forks County. 

Almyra was united in marriage to Kenneth Topp on July 14, 1957, at Aneta, ND.  Following their marriage they lived and farmed the Topp family farm in Columbia Township of Eddy County.  In 1983, they moved into Grace City.  In addition to being involved in the family farm, Almyra, Ken, and his father founded Farmer’s Elevator, INC. at Grace City in 1970, where she worked as office manager for 30 plus years.  She was a charter member and first president of the National Sunflower Association, Bismarck, ND and was selected as “Outstanding Farm Woman of the year” by Country Farm Wife Magazine in 1979. 

Almyra’s faith in Christ was a major influence in her life.  She was active in several churches over the years, including: Grace City United Methodist Church, Faith Bible Chapel of Grace City, New Life Fellowship of rural Hamar and Bethel Assembly of God in Carrington.  She was church organist for 60 years, beginning to play at age 13.  She was an Auxiliary of the Gideon’s International for 40 years. She participated in Christian Women’s Club of Carrington, Columbia County Homemaker’s, Borderette’s Homemakers, and the Grace City Community Betterment Club.

Almyra enjoyed singing as a soloist or in ladies’ trios.  She directed choirs and church cantatas.  Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, gardening and traveling.  Almyra and Ken had traveled extensively around the world with People to People, a farmer’s idea exchange program. Kenneth passed away on September 25, 2007.

She is survived by three children, Jeff (Jan), Grace City; Kimm (Don) Rust, Cogswell; Todd (Sara), Louis Eduardo, Brazil; seven grandchildren, Jason (Rami), Grace City; Justin (Amanda), Grace City; Jessie (Mitchell) Becker, Fargo; Drew (fiancée Shaina), Jamestown; Chandler, Jamestown; Rebecca (Gus) Zimmerman, Louis Eduardo, Brazil; William, Louis Eduardo, Brazil and five Great-grandchildren.  Three brothers Gelaine (Linda), Fargo; Jerome (Jan), Fargo and Earl (Jane), Adams, MN; a sister Shirley (Jack) Hanson, Florence, AZ.

Almyra was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents Selma Orvik and Alvin (Judy) Orvik, a brother Neil, a sister, Mavis, and a grandson Ory.

 

Visitation: Tuesday, 9:00AM – 7:00PM followed by a Prayer Service: at 7:00PM all in Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, ND

Funeral Service: Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at 11:00AM  in Bethel Assembly of God, Carrington, ND

Burial: Grace City Cemetery, Grace City, ND
